Dangerous Work Environment?

Posted Sep 11 2008 8:40pm
Maybe it isn't so surprising that I have found my job has such a strong impact on my health. It seems that our workplace has drastic consequences for many of my colleagues.

We've had a terrible rash of injuries lately. One bookseller has aggravated the 3 pinched nerves in her neck and is out of work for two weeks. A supervisor has either a herniated or a slipped disk in his back and is also out for two weeks. A cashier has a broken collar bone (not broken on the job, I should stress) that has already required one surgery and is expected to require another.

Plus we've had our share of colds, flus, stomach bugs, strep throat, and bronchitis (not just me, either) which is only natural since we are exposed to hundreds of people each week who handle our books, our computers, and the money we take from them while leaving dirty coffee cups, paper towels, tissues and chewed gum for us to clean up. Add to all this a student at a local university, attended by at least a half dozen of our employees, who was recently diagnosed with Whooping Cough!

Suddenly, with my aching feet and back and head, I feel pretty good.
