I”ve heard it so often in the past, the dreaded “but you don’t look sick”. I know I don’t – that’s why fibromyalgia is often called the ‘invisible disease’ Still, it is somewhat frustrating to having to explain yourself again and again. If I was bald or lame people would probably believe me, but with an illness that doesn’t show it’s a different matter altogether.
But guess what, yesterday a good friend of mine commented on my hollow cheeks and racoon eyes with “you look sick”. Huh???? Did I hear her right??? So now I do look sick!! I took it with a grain of salt, decided to take it as a compliment and assured her that it was ‘just’ from the insomnia (CE) and not from pain. And because we talked too much about insomnia last night, I promptly spent another sleepless night (well, maybe three or four hours sleep) and would benefit greatly from someone who could come over to my place and help me keep my eyelids open!
I found a good site on the net dealing with the issue of having an invisible disease. It’s even called ‘But you don’t look sick’. It also has a discussion forum that I haven’t checked out yet but here’s the link to the site:
