Animal Model for Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Methods for Use Thereof
Posted Aug 31 1998 5:00pm
Description of Invention: The invention provides an animal model for the study of age-related macular degeneration. The model is an animal, any mammal, having subretinal cells, e.g. retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells, genetically modified to express VEGF so as to result in subretinal fibrovascular proliferation. The invention also provides a two methods: 1) for determining whether a molecule of interest can inhibit ARMD; and 2) for determining whether radiation can inhibit ARMD.
Applications: * Screening molecules for inhibition of ARMD
* Research tool - animal model
Advantages: * Consistent model for study of ARMD
* Screening tool for inhibition of ARMD
Inventors: Karl G Csaky (NEI)
Patent Status: HHS, Reference No. E-078-1997/0
Licensing Status: Available for non-exclusive licensing
Portfolios: Ophthalmology Ophthalmology - Other Ophthalmology - Research Materials
