WWLD: Grocery Shopping Hungry

Posted Nov 29 2008 12:25pm

Grocery shopping leads to any obvious chain reaction.

You buy foods at the store...you bring the foods home...you eat the foods that are in your home.

Not rocket science!

The trick is, what you buy.

If you buy a bunch of junk, you'll have a bunch of junk at your house, and most likely you'll eat that junk sooner or later.

Now there is another chain reaction that can occur while grocery shopping.

You grocery shop hungry...you buy MORE food...foods bought aren't as healthy because of your hunger.

So grocery shopping is already a delicate activity, and I'm classifying grocery shopping hungry as a RISKY ACTIVITY.

If you find yourself in a grocery store hungry, always think...

Last Sunday I was starving when I got to the grocery store, dying! It could have lead to big trouble for my wallet and stomach if I didn't act fast.

I zoomed past the produce, the dairy, the bakery, the deli, and headed right to the health food section to inhale a South Beach Diet Bar. Kinda shady to eat in a grocery store, but it's all good as long as you save the wrapper. The fun part is explaining what happened to your cashier.

Having that nutrition bar was exactly what I needed to calm my hunger and stabilize my blood sugar, both which helped me to think clear when deciding what and how much to buy.

What to nibble on if you are hungry while grocery shopping:
  • Baby carrots
  • Sushi
  • Mixed raw nuts
  • Dried fruit
  • Granola bar
  • Bottle of water
  • Protein or nutrition bar
  • Nutrition or meal replacement shake
  • Pretzels
  • Pre-sliced and packaged fruit
  • Small carton of milk
  • String cheese

Whenever you are in doubt... think WWLD.
