The other day at the gym I saw this fellow playing squash. He had a pair of brief shorts on. And I do mean brief. They were the kind favored by long distance runners, meaning they had a large slit in the side fabric to let the thigh move easily. Now if you are a skinny Kenyan or Ethiopian that’s perhaps ok, but if you are a chunky white guy, not so much!
I mean, it’s a fine idea if you are running across muddy fields when no one is watching. Not such a good idea when you are in a glass encased court. No one except your spouse or proctologist should have to see that much of your thigh.
Anyway, that reminded me of a great reason why some outfits should only be worn at home, and why some exercises are just perfect for home when you are wearing those shorts.
I’m talking about the “cat kick” exercise. It’s great for ab and core muscles and here’s how you do it.
First, stand up straight with your feet together, arms extended wide like airplane wings. Exhale, and lift your right leg forward and up with your toes pointing up to the ceiling.
At the same time, sweep your arms forward at shoulder level and round your spine, like a cat. Your navel should feel as though it’s pressing toward the spine.
Inhale, and open back up and return to the starting position.
Then repeat with your left leg, and then keep alternating for 20 repetitions on each leg. Or as many as you can manage.
This works your abs and your core and also helps work on your sense of balance and coordination.

The beauty of this is exercise is that it’s easy to do, you don’t need any equipment to do it, you don’t even need very much room. You can do it in your front room at home, your backroom, your kitchen, heck if you have a big bathroom you could even do it there.
And the end result is stronger abs, tighter core muscles, tighter butt muscles and better balance.
