I remember a joke about a man who asks a little girl, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” she said,
“I want to be me!”
During my hypnosis sessions there is a part where I am helping my client quiet their mind. There is a phrase I use, “The future doesn’t exist. The future is not a place you are going to, the future is a place you are creating and you are creating your future now, by all the choices you make each day. If you want to create your future from the point of view of inner wisdom, wise guidance, love and serenity – If you would like to be the person you were meant to be, the person you came here to be – take in a deep breath now.”
Usually the client will take in these thoughts and take that deep breath of acceptance. We all have our own answers. We all have the “right” answer but sometimes life gets in the way and we forget to make the choice.
This weekend I was reminded again about choice and how important it is to recognize that every choice we make becomes a step to our future. Whether it is the choice to walk instead of drive, run instead of walk, not to have dessert this time, do something nice for yourself, take the risk to be out of your comfort zone. They are all choices which will lead you to your future.
In my case, I was doing the laundry, and because we live in a small apartment house, sometimes you have to wait while others are using the machine. I had a blanket in the washer but I had to go out so I put my $1.25 by the dryer just in case someone came down and wanted to use the machine while I was gone. Well, someone did, but instead of putting my blanket in the dryer, they just put it on the counter and did their wash and used my $1.25 for their clothes to dry! I thought that was pretty rotten. So when I returned here is my wet blanket on the counter and there is someone’s wet clothes drying on my buck! So I thought, I’ll just take their clothes out and put my blanket in. Revenge? Getting even?
No, I didn’t do it. I didn’t do it because Kevin asked, “Would that make you a better person?”
Darn! This little trivial thing is still a choice and a step toward being the person I want to be. Every choice is a step in the right direction. Isn’t it.
