Week One: 2010 500 Festival Mini-Marathon Training

Posted Jan 20 2010 6:02am
Yesterday was my first two-a-day workout and the first training run/seminar of the Indy Runners Mini-Marathon training program. I did 30 minutes with my trainer where she focused on core stability work. We got to use my favorite instrument of torture workout equipment, the BOSU

Doesn't it look so friendly? It's only half of a stability ball!

My trainer ledme through a series of exercises that challenged the core and put Angela's whittle my middle challenge to shame.  I always feel like I'm going to give out half-way through but I push on to make sure my core is strong enough to run long distances.

After work I met my running club for their Mini-Marathon training program. It was my first run with the 12 minute/mile pacing group. I might have outpaced my group but was a little too slow to end with the 11 minute group. I did 3.19 miles (according to my calibrated Nike+) in 35:31 which is an 11:07 pace per mile. Not bad for my first training run and first steady outdoor run (without snow or being on a track) for 2010!

Have you ever used a BOSU before?  What are some of your favorite BOSU exercises?
