The Men's 4 x 100m Sprint is always one of my favourite Olympic events, it combines speed, power and team work like nothing else and is always incredibly intense! So much can go wrong from a slow sprinter, to a bad hand off to a step on the line that instantly shatters a team's dream of Olympic glory. So much did go wrong for the men as they dropped the baton in the final hand off of the semi-finals, thereby eliminating their chance to face Jamaica in the finals. I really wanted to see a battle between the US and Jamaican teams because they are both so talented and have turned into massive rivals.
Unfortunately for the viewers it was a one team show in the finals with Jamaica totally dominating the field with Trinidad and Tobago coming in a distant second and Japan third. My beloved Canadians were not able to medal but they sure did well and made it to the finals for a change!
It seems fitting that Usain Bolt and his team totally dominated the event. That is what Usain Bolt does, dominate the competition and win a gold medal! All in a days work for one of the greatest champions of the Beijing Olympics. Their world record time of 37.10 seconds was picture perfect. Each hand off was smooth and each sprinter gained distance on the field. At then end it wasn't even a race.
So congratulations to the Jamaican Track team and to Usain Bolt. They truly are the kings of the track at Beijing!
