Day 38-45 Tues - Tues
Oh my! Its been a week of inconsistent "training". I was still reeling from the final traces of my cold which included sudden fits of coughing until my back aches. I found that raising one leg on a stool or step while coughing lessen the impact on our lower back. So is holding in your abs (drawing in your navel to the back).
Outdoor training is limited due to 'The haze'
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_Malaysian_haze ) which has become an annual affair with fingers pointing to pollution from our own cars & factories & open burning by neighbouring countries during the planting season. The irony is that some of the plantations doing this in our neighbouring country is owned by Malaysian companies!
Luckily, my work requires constant walking around and running up & down the stairs. As I take the public transport (does running after buses, walking to & climbing up dozens of steps to LRT stations & waiting for trains count as interval training?) I think I was reasonably active.
One fine night (when I can't see the haze) I again did the 'long walk' home after getting fed up waiting for immovable buses and mafia taxis who will only move after they pack 4 passengers in a taxi but charge us separately. I walked from the Cempaka station to Pandan Indah and had an greasy, tasty supper at the pasar malam (night market). Then, I saw the bus pass by. It will be another 40 mins wait. So I walked on and on.. Just to clear my mind as the weekend was coming & I had a few things to work out - how to get another tenant for my vacant apartment, how to clear up the mess my previous tenant left and mom's surprise party! I was also worried about not training for so long...
I kept a constant pace... 15 mins later I was already at Pandan Mewah.. Stop now? Legs a bit wobbly - No.. let's try getting to Putri Park just down the road. Then a quick round at the other pasar malam (night market) in Taman Putra and off again, homeward bound... another 15 mins and I'm home!! Woh, gotta sit down.
Sunday morning - preparations for the party.. cooking, washing.. Was on my feet right up to the evening where guests made their surprised appearances - one at 1pm, another at 4pm and the last batch 6pm! Luckily it all ended by 9pm and we (mom & I) were able to put up our feet & watch at 10pm the finale of our favourite local show 'Ghost 2' with a real surprise ending!
During the week too, my cat got into a fight & injured a large part of his ear lobe which required a stay at the vet & a hefty bill - yeah, mom's birthday present....
This morning, haze or no haze, cough or no cough - I was determined to resume my training (after >2 weeks lag). Very relieved to say that my legs appeared as strong as before I caught the cold. So getting back to The Plan was quite easy... During the 2 weeks break, my knees were beginning to hurt again but after today's workout it felt strong again.. YAY!
There's less than 2 weeks to go...
