Towel and Plate Workout (the poor man's kettlebell)

I love to train with Russian Kettlebells to burn fat and build muscle. But not everyone has a kettlebell and even if they do, their kettlebell isn't always the correct weight for the exercise they are doing. To remedy this you can make your own kettlebell by taking a rope or a strong towel and wrapping it around or through a weight. I have used both ropes and towels and personally prefer to use a really thick rope, like 2 inches or more in diameter. At home the other day I used a towel instead because it was handy. The best thing about using a rope or towel is you will really work your grip strength at the same time as you pump up your muscles. The thick grip and the weight hanging below totally change the movement. In the video below I am only using 25 lbs but it feels closer to fifty! Sometime I will even loop the towel through the kettlebell to change the displacement of the weight and make it more of a grip workout. You can make up all kinds of exercises, the ones shown below are just examples. Give this a try at home and see if you like it!
