Top Ten Running Songs and BIG BIG News!

Posted Oct 19 2009 10:04pm
I have some guilty secrets that I have to confess, something that is going to get my indie/metal/punk/emo card straight up revoked. First up I think I've finalized my half-marathon playlist. I have 3.5 hours worth of music but I'm shooting for 2 hours 40 minutes. Take a look:

Secondly I thought I'd post my top five running songs currently:
  1. Journey Don't Stop Believin' - Seriously, this is at the top of my list. I'm a huge fan of the power ballads and this one is no exception. It keeps me believing that I'm going to finish my half-marathon and keeps believing in myself.
  2. Wyclef Jean Perfect Gentleman - First off, I love this song. It's my warmup song and keeps me on track to start off slow and steady. It's one that I always start my runs off with and it keeps me strong and steady.
  3. Flo Rida Right Round - I discovered this song on another runner's playlist and I really like the beat and it's great to run to, plus it's just silly.
  4. Miley Cyrus Party in the USA - I'm in LOVE with this song and I'm totally ashamed of it, it's a great song with a lot of energy that I have hitting at just the right spot in my playlist to kick off my first steady run.
  5. Britney Spears Gimme More - This song is campy and horrible but I love it and the chorus makes me keep running and giving Miss Britney my last miles that I have in me.
And now, for the big news, I've been picked as the Indianapolis Quick Workouts Examiner! I'm really excited to write about quick and easy workouts for people in the area and I'm very honored that I can pay it forward with the workout knowledge I've learned over the past year!

Lastly, I was supposed to do 7 miles tonight but I psyched myself out and only did 5.5 because it was getting dark. I'm starting to really get nervous about my first half-marathon, especially after three runners died in the Detroit Marathon and Half-Marathon this weekend. I'm trying to read up on as much as possible about running a half-marathon in the midwest in November! I want to be prepared!

What are your tips for first time half-marathon runners? If you've never run a half-marathon, what are your favorite workout songs?
