Top 5 Ways to Make Your Work-out Fun

Posted by C.L. R.

1. Fuel your fire. Make sure you are hydrated, fed and rested before kicking it at the gym. Skipping out on breakfast to really make that Stairmaster session count will make you hit the wall faster and have a less productive session.

2. Pump up the volume! Make a Sweat folder on your IPod, with music that makes you want to push it that extra mile. Listening to music can keep your mind occupied so your workout's more exciting.

3. Switch it Up! Always run on the treadmill? Once a week, head out for some natural terrain. (If weather doesn't allow, find an indoor track).

4. Invest in a fun exercise outfit. I'm not talking 1985 Jazzercise spandex, but looking your best at the gym can eliminate some of that ab envy.

5. Bring a buddy. Doing your thing with a partner can make a workout better. Chatting and mutual encouragement can give you that extra mental push just when you were thinking about stepping out early.

Put your favorite songs on the Ipod. A mix of upbeat and mellow so it covers all your exercise from weight training to cardio.
I think the most important thing is to wear clothes that make you feel good. If you feel fat at the gym - not a good time! If you have to cover a little more up one week in order to feel better at the gym, go for it! It's better than the alternative, which for me would mean staying home and then feeling worse the next week!
Great ideas for making workouts fun.. Another idea is to put a bit of "play" into your workout routines. For example, with a cardio treadmill workout, how using a deck of cards and drawing a card every two minutes to determine your 'incline' level. Drawing a "4" means to set your incline to "4" for two minutes. Drawing a Jack = incline of 10 Drawing a Queen = incline of 11 Drawing a King = incline of 12 Drawing an ACE = Top Incline (most treadmills peak at 15) For a 30 minute workout, draw 15 individual cards; one every two minutes. This tactic not only challenges your cardiovascular system, but also puts a ton of fun into your workout.
