The Inner Thigh Machine

Posted Dec 20 2008 7:19pm

I can't believe it, but I have been working as a personal trainer for over eight years now!

Because of my years of 'experience' there is nothing that really makes me uncomfortable at the gym anymore - I have unfortunately seen it all...

Except for one thing!

There is one thing that still makes me feel super awkward.

And actually, NO, it is not theold naked guy in the locker room

It is (drumroll please)...

theINNER THIGH MACHINE!

I will only put my client on this piece of equipment if they bribe me with compliments and $$$.

Otherwise, I'm not going near it!

It's just weird to me to be standing there watching my female client open and close her legs.

Especially when there are so many other exercises that can work the adductors (inner thighs)

So if I have been bribed to let my client do this machine, you will see me staring up at the ceiling and saying things like, 'How's your loving and dedicated husband, Mrs. Walsh?'

Fortunately for me, my brother sent some pictures from his 369 Exercise Science class @ the University of Kansas that proves my point.

MRI comparisons of the Inner Thigh Machine & the Leg Press

Inner Thigh Machine

Leg Press

What do these pictures tell us?
  • These pics GOT to be from the 80's!
  • Black muscles in the MRI = not activated
  • Light muscles in the MRI = activated
  • Inner Thigh or Adductor muscles are considered: AD M, AD B, AD L, GR, SR
  • Leg Pressactivated more inner musclesthan Inner Thigh Machine

Morale of The Story!

1. Don't make your trainer feel awkward by taking you to the inner/outer thigh machine!

2. Pick exercises that can activate the most muscle available, giving you the greatest benefit!
