Sticking to a routine can be tough, especially as it has been for me in the last month or so--I've gone on vacation, the weather has changed, and given my line of work as a freelance writer and editor, I always have to be willing to roll with the punches. So coming up with a strict exercise schedule has been challenging. I would prefer to work out in the mornings; however, if I've been up the night before trying to make a deadline, or if I'm called in to an impromptu work-related meeting early in the morning, that definitely throws me for a loop. In the end, I realize it's about being realistic. Of course, there's the predictable, regular workout schedule--but you need to make sure you also take into account the crazy spontaneity of everyday life. In the end, for me, it's been a matter of balancing those out and not beating myself up if I can't stick to the routine.
