As I mentioned yesterday in my end of the year post , I am excited to start Diane Sanfilippo’s, from Balanced Bites , ” 21 Day Sugar Detox ” program tomorrow, January 2nd! This is not one of those wacky detox diets where you cut out all fat and protein sources and start consuming only water, lemon and herbs for 21 days. This is a whole foods detox to help people get off sugar and carbs, break addictions and potentially lose weight!
I don’t really have any major issues with sugar as I cut it out about several years ago, but I did replace it with artificial and natural sweeteners. I used Splenda for several years but as of about a year and half ago I switched over to organic Stevia. Now, I am addicted to Stevia and seriously can’t imagine life without it, I just love that sweet stuff! I don’t necessarily think there is anything wrong with pure stevia, but I do wonder how my body would respond if I completely cut it out all together. So I am going to strictly follow the 21 DSD, soak in all the benefits and hopefully loose a little weight along the way!
During the 21 days:
I will cut out the following: all sugar and sweeteners (buh-bye Stevia *tear*), most starches except for after my workouts, protein powder (eek!), most fruits except green apple and green tipped banana are allowed.
I will continue to exclude dairy, soy and grains from my diet.
I will continue to eat real delicious whole foods, nothing processed.
I will load up on approved vegetables, healthy fats, organic and grassfed meats (as long as my budget permits).
I will keep all of my guides handy in case I have questions.
I will try out some of the awesome recipes that are provided in the program and try out some recipes I’ve already pinned on my 21 Day Sugar Detox Approved Meals Pinterest board!
If you are on the fence about whether or not you want to do the detox, I just want you to keep in mind that it is ONLY 21 days and apparently 21 days is all it takes to form a habit! That’s easy breezy lemon squeezey! Last month I cut out alcohol for the first time in my life for a whopping 30 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I never thought I would be able to do it, but I did and felt amazing! It just took a little dedication, planning and I had to keep my eye on the prize aka my weightloss goals!
I plan to blog as much as I can here and share my experiences daily via through photos on Instagram with the hashtag #21DSD, AND my good friend Meredith at Dare You To is joining in on the fun with me! After my success with my weight loss goals last month , I realized how important it is to have a solid support system when possible, so I’m thrilled she is going to be right there with me!
