There are a lot offunky names for exercises out there and today I will cover one of them that I regularly give to most of my new clients. It's calledscaption or shoulder scaption, because the humerus (upper arm bone) moves through the scapular plane of motion. To make it easier to remember, I tell most of my clients the exercise is called the shoulder 'V'. As your arms will move in the shape of the letter 'V'. ![]() Benefits of the shoulder scaption:
I also generally like to make this exercise more challenging by performing it on 1 leg...noton a BOSU like Steve Nash below, but one foot on the stable floor. ![]() This will give additional benefit by burning more calories (more muscles working), challenging the core, engaging the gluteus medius of the stance leg, and working on the stability of the ankle, knee, and hip.
