2400 18 St. NW, Washington DC 20009 I have been living in Adams Morgan for almost three years now and experience shows certain things are always easy to find on the weekends: short skirts, ‘rose’ guys and parking lot pimping. More difficult to find is… a sober person or a healthy meal. Hate to admit it, but our beloved 18th street strip surrounds us with second-class options to keep slim in the waist and cute in the face in 2011. It’s hard enough not to be seduced by the sirens of ‘the slice’ or shwarma on a random Tuesday let alone when you are a couple drinks in on Saturday night. Why can’t there be more places where we can eat that won’t leave us feeling as gross as the people stumbling into cabs at 4am? Luckily Santa came early this year for the good boys and girls of Adams Morgan by bringing us Wok And Roll this past November! Far from coal in our stocking, we’ve unwrapped the best new Chinese and Japanese variety restaurant around. Wok And Roll takes the most popular dishes from these two cultures and adds their personal touch to bring ordinary to extraordinary. Please don’t assume that this place is simply Asia, as the chefs love to put their own spin on classic international dishes from all over the world. One of the best things about the restaurant is the menu is huge! On the other hand, it can be hard to navigate if healthy is your final destination. Follow my 6 Steps to Wok And Roll-ing a Healthy Meal: 1. Choose at leaset one thing from the salad section – fills ya up, not stuffs you up 2. Try some tea – low cal, high antioxidant value 3. Resist the rice – little nutritional value, skip it 4. Forgo anything fried – obvi really 5. Sauce on the side – remember to say these four words 6. Steam when suspect – healthiest veggie preparation besides raw Now that you have the guidelines to order within, here are just a few of the many great options to order there: Spicy Garden Roll – this salad is impersonating a roll with it’s rice skin, mixed greens, spicy tuna Sea Bass With Mix Vegetables – ever so lightly stir fried sea bass with brilliant bok choy, carrots, and mushrooms Salmon Ceviche – This South American dish is a special and rightfully so I must say that I’m excited to have Wok And Roll as a new neighbor and I welcome their picture perfect food presentation and natural, healthy ingredients with open arms (and an open mouth) to our ‘hood. |
