I didn’t realize just how much I needed my ZMA until I was out of it for 3 weeks!
ZMA is an advanced zinc/magnesium formulation designed to replace deficiencies caused from exercise and stress. Zinc and magnesium deficiencies pretty common with most people and more common in athletes. Rigorous exercise and stress result in zinc and magnesium losses. It can be very hard to recover proper amounts of zinc and magnesium without specific supplementation.
ZMA can also be used to promote deeper, more restful sleep, which is why I started taking it in the first place. So not only does it help your muscles to recover, it helps you to get the sleep your body needs to recover and rebuild.
One thing about ZMA is that it shouldn’t be taken with dairy products or calcium supplements because the calcium with compete with the ZMA absorption. But if you are taking the ZMA right before bed, you should have no problems!
I take 1 capsule of ZMA occasionally. However, I was taking 15-25 mg of zinc daily, with only 700 mcg of copper and became copper deficient. My chest pains went away after I started using copper bis-glycinate capsules from Bluebonnet. I am currently experimenting with no zinc or coppper or a multivitamin. I just use a B-Complex and a green drink. I would never again take zinc without copper. You don't have to take copper at the same time, just as long as you include it overall, in a 10-1 ratio or close to that amount. In fact, you might be better off taking copper separately for best absorption.
