Purpose, Revisited.

Posted Feb 10 2009 10:57am

If you go to Rai Rai Ken, you’re there for the ramen.  If you’ve got a hankering for pork buns, Momofuku is the place to be.  If you’re in the mood for one particular standout dish, you don’t go to the local diner, where spaghetti and meatballs live on the menu alongside potato pierogi.

It’s ok to make the gym your sanctuary; your safe haven from the slings and arrows of your daily routine.  It’s also helpful to use exercise as active meditation.  But make no bones about it - the purpose of exercise is to create a better body (and, consequently, a better life for you).  The gym isn’t a social scene (despite appearances to the contrary).  It’s not a place to be seen, either.

If you’re going to the gym, you’ve got an agenda.  And it shouldn’t be to show off your latest Lululemon top.
