Protein in Water?

Posted by Angie Schumacher Healthy Living ProfessionalHealth Maven

protein water

A client of mine brought me a bottle of the Special K20 Protein Water. Their newest flavor is Mixed Berry. I have seen the commercials for this and had wondered just how much protein there could be in water. There are 50 calories and 14 grams of carbohydrates, 6g being sugars. They use whey protein isolate (which is the purest and most absorbable form of whey protein in existence, containing 90% pure protein. It is lactose, fat, and cholesterol free) to make a total of 5 grams of protein in the water.

My take on the water? It was a bit too sweet for me. I had to take half the bottle and pour it into a glass and add water and ice to lessen the sweetness. It had a little bit of an aftertaste that stayed in my mouth also.

So would I choose to buy it? Well, if I was on the road and wanted something sweet, I might choose this over a soda, just for the added protein, but other wise, I think I will just stick with my water and my protein shakes!

Have you tried the Special K20 Protein Water? If so, what did you think? Did you like the taste?

Best we get our protein from natural sources and drink pure clean water. At best this should be a back up plan on the run (almonds would also easily suffice). Yes, the water tastes really sweet and creepy. Everything added to the water, including preservatives, artificial sweeteners and the protein itself is lab-created, thus our bodies have to think a bit about how to best utilize it for energy...
