Pop Quiz! - Muscle Versus Fat Pop Quiz!

Posted Nov 29 2008 12:26pm

Pop Quiz!

What weighs more muscle or fat?

Here are your possible answers:

a. Muscle

b. Fat

c. They Are The Same

No peaking, don't scroll down for the answer this time!

I bet almost anyone has heard someone say, 'muscle weighs more than fat'. Actually, I heard that in the bathroom today. Unfortunately, when it comes to the men's bathroom... that is not the most bizarre thing you can hear.

When anyone says that muscle weighs more than fat to me, I ask them a question back...

What weighs more a pound of muscle or a pound of fat?

It's a trick question, like 'Who is buried in Grant's Tomb?' because a pound is a pound - no matter what. 1 pound of muscle weighs the same as 1 pound of fat.  The answer to the quiz is 'C'.

Muscle cells are more dense than fat cells. Fat cells are larger in size than muscle cells and a pound of muscle is actually 18% smaller than a pound of fat.

And if you don't know, now you know... reader.
