Open Letter Friday and Project Food Blog

Posted Sep 03 2010 12:00am

Friday night the Hubs and I headed out for a little carb loading before my 18 mile training run on Saturday. We decided to go back to Napolese , Martha Hoover's (of Cafe Patachou fame) take on neopolitan pizza. In lieu of bread our server kicked off the meal with a small dish of herbed olives. The olives were really tasty with hints of thyme, rosemary and garlic. They were also in a nice oily brine that brought out the different flavors of the different varieties of olives.

We started with an appetizer of the ricotta, pancetta, sea salt and cracked pepper spread.  Topped with more pancetta and basil chiffonade this decadent spread is served with a bowl of breadsticks.

The combination of the garlicky breadsticks with the salty pancetta and smooth ricotta is a home run. I dream about this spread and find myself craving it on occasion. Words can't explain how the creamy spread melts in your mouth leaving you wanting more and more with each bite. It's truly decadent and I want to try and replicate this at home!

Our main course was the BLT or Bacon, Carmelized Leeks and Taleggio pizza. The sweetness of the sauce and carmelized leeks with the salty bacon and the rich, pungent taleggio was a perfect pairing.

The crust was chewy, salty and had a nice sour note that really stood out with the simplicity of the toppings. I was glad the hubs had talked me into the meaty dish!

I was glad the leeks had retained their crunch and would love to eat here more regularly! The crust was slightly charred and I find myself wishing we had ordered more just so I could have leftovers! I'd also like to try one of their pizzas with white sauce next time we go!

What is your favorite unique pizza topping?
