New study: Trim in youth may result in healthy old age

Posted by Nancy B.

People who stay trim and healthy when they are younger may be healthier and more mobile when they reach old age, according to new research reported in the International Journal of Obesity. Researchers looked at data on nearly 3,000 people, ages 70 to 79, in Pittsburgh and Memphis measuring physical performances on such things as walking speed, balance and ability to rise from a chare. The men and women who were overweight earlier in their lives scored lower than those who became overweight in late-adulthood, according to an article in The Washington Post.
