Holing up at the gym can get monotonous, especially if you get stuck in a rut of the same machines day in and day out. In an effort to break gym rats out of the doldrums, a few well-known exercise equipment manufacturers have come up with some new ideas. Be on the lookout for…the Bowflex Treadclimber (www.treadclimber.com) mixes the functions of the treadmill, stairclimber, treadmill, and elliptical machine. The dual “treadies,” which resemble large platforms similar to the elliptical machine, allow feet to move freely forward while stepping up. The Adaptive Motion Trainer from Precor looks like a hybrid between and elliptical and a stairmaster, and allows you to change the motion and path of your steps without pushing a button. The handles give your arms a little bit of a workout, too. The Treadwall features a rotating climbing wall six feet wide with adjustable speed, angle, and hand-holds. Max height is one to two feet off the ground.
