My Year 2013 In a Nutshell: Working Out with Jillian Michaels & Shaun T, My Best Body Ever & a FREE Gift For YOU!

Posted Jan 20 2014 12:00am

Whoa can you guys believe that it’s already the 20th of January and as of last night the Broncos are going to the Super Bowl XLVLL?!! Craziness!  Well happy 2014! I hope your year is going well and you are sticking to all of your goals and resolutions!

2013 was a crazy and awesome for me! I want to start sharing some new stuff with you here but before I can get into what’s happening in 2014, here is a quick recap of my favorite and most awesome highlights of 2013 and a special gift for all of you at the end…

I spent most of the year studying online at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition . I first heard about the health coaching program at IIN back in early 2012 from a few different health bloggers. At the time I was trying to figure out what the heck was going on with my own body and was really getting interested in health and nutrition. I knew it was the perfect program for me but I wasn’t sure if I could swing it because of my hectic work schedule at the time. But I declared to myself that I was going to find a way to make school happen and although it seemed out of reach for me, I eventually found a way to leave my job and start school! I finished out the year long program in September and graduated with my certification for Holistic Health Coaching ! I learned so much about nutrition, lifestyle coaching, starting and running a business, and made a lot of really great friends along the way!

Around April, I hit my 6 month mark at IIN, received my mid-year Health Coaching certification and was able to start coaching clients. It felt so great to finally start making a living doing what I love! I started my new blog, Awakened Nutrition , specifically for my health coaching. I later joined forces with my amazing boyfriend Chris who is a certified personal trainer. Together we changed the name to Awakened Nutrition and Training and have been offering online personal training and health and nutrition coaching together.  Working with Chris has been a dream come true for me ever since I started Exsoycise about 2.5 years ago. I always knew in my heart that we would eventually work and build a life together. We still have a long way to go with our business, but it feels amazing to get the ball rolling!

Now things weren’t always going my way this year. Life got a little crazy with school, a new business, writing two blogs, taking on a few clients and other life stressors. I was still really enjoying the ride but started to let things slip with my eating and missing too many workouts. Some of the pounds I lost a couple years before started to creep back on. Around mid-April I decided that it was time to start setting some real goals to get back on track. I declared to my friends and to all my pals on social media that I had set a new goal to do a fitness style photo shoot for myself and was going to work hard for 3 months to get in my best shape ever! So from April 22nd-June 22nd I got my diet back in check, got back into the gym and following the workout plan that Chris designed for me. I was lifting heavy 4-5 days per week mixed with some high intensity cardio mixed in. At the end of the 3 months, I had lost 14lbs of fat and revealed a lot of the lean muscle that I have been working so hard to build the last few years. I had my friend Lauren take Chris and my photos around NYC in a gym, a small park in the Meatpacking district and on top of the beautiful High Line Park. It was such an amazing accomplishment for me and I proved to myself that I can do anything as long as I make a commitment and believe in myself!

After finishing up with school, I had set a very loose goal get my personal training certification by the beginning of the year but I kept putting it off and carried on trying to build my business. Chris really inspired me over the years to want to get my PT certification because he is such a smart cookie when it comes to training and just looking at his hot bod is inspiration in itself! Then in September, I got another spark of inspiration after Reebok sent me to the Sweat Atlantic City event for the weekend to get my sweat on. I got to workout with THE Jillian Michaels and Shuan T from the Insanity and T25 workouts! I also met and worked out with the beautifully fit  Kira Stokes  and sassy Calvin from Calvinography ! Watching them motivate everyone to push their bodies to the limits {and in Jillian’s case screaming at people to get off their a$$’s! Ha!} at the event was a another huge motivator and really got me itching to get certified! So with the push of a  friend I signed up to take NASM ‘s 9 week online fast track PT certification course in November. I am just finishing up the course now and let me tell you it is a tough one, but I am so glad that I am finally getting it done! I will still be studying for the next month or so and then will take my exam!

My Workout with Jillian Michaels

On the last day of the year I finally finished a project that I had been working on for a few months. I’d been noticing that one of my most popular posts over the last couple years has been on meal planning and food prep. Having somewhat of a set meal plan just works for my fit lifestyle and it has been a key tool that has helped me to reach all of my personal goals over the years. I wanted to create a meal plan that I could share with all of my fabulous readers and I hope that it will help some of you just as it has done for me! So my New Year gift to all of you for being so awesome is my FREE  7 day meal plan {soy, dairy & gluten free}, tips, guide, blank DIY meal plan and shopping list! Enjoy!

I am going to keep this post as short and sweet as I can {so much more I can say but I am going to spare you all :) }, but I will be back again with a separate post shortly with some of my new personal goals, some great tips and recipes for you!

Now I want to hear from you! What crazy awesome things happened to you in 2013 and what goals have you set for yourself in 2014?
