I find it challenging to stay calm when I hear/see things like this:
"Health insurance plans that will cover surgery and drug prescriptions, but not acupuncture, massage, herbal/organic food remedies.

I've worked with amazing health care professionals over
the years -- individuals with incredible intelligence, top-notch skills, integrity and the desire to cure.
The
issue with health care isn't the doctors.
It's the SYSTEM that trains them. . . the system they're
forced to comply with.
I know, because I've been a part of it. . . and I removed myself because the rules/methods/priorities of "the system"
just didn't seem right.
Somewhere between studying the fundamentals in school and then practicing medicine, there is a disconnect in the system that negatively impacts the doctor's ability to practicetrue " health" care.
Doctors get incredible training to understand and diagnose pathology. The system leaves little time for them to "put it all together" resulting in care that is more about treating symptoms, less about understanding and teaching prevention.
Doctors go into medicine thinking about curing the world of disease. . . and become a part of a system that's concerned more with business and a bureaucracy, rather than health and wellness.
Here's the thing:
Health and vitality should never have been (nor should it continue to be) about business and money.
Should health and fitness professionals be capable of making an honest living helping people? Sure.
But the primary objective should ALWAYS be the health of clients -- teaching them how to prevent illness and then helping them as safely, quickly and naturally as possible. And once care has been given, the focus should be on keeping the client healthy, so they can stay clear of medical intervention as much as possible.
There's no place for:
"We won't cover this procedure/treatment. . ." when that decision is being made by businessmen who know nothing about health.
"We're closing down this department because it's not a money-maker for the hospital." WHOCARES?!? The client needs help -- help them!
standards of care to be determined by pharma power and money. . .
especially when those standards often favor shareholders more than patients.
It's bad enough that MDs - as experts in MEDICINE, not experts in HEALTH - are given primary authority to give health advice over other qualified professionals; it's worse when business decisions (pre-)determine a person's ability to receive care that can help them live healthy lives.
It's time for us - as professionals, clients and patients - to work together for change.
Clients and patients -- help to change the system by taking responsibility for your own health. Educate yourselves. Ask questions without just "taking a professional's word for it." Utilize your power of intuition and critical thinking to understand and practice the basics of "true health."
Fellow professionals, let's work harder to come together as equals - as specialists in our respective fields working together with the common goals of:
- approaching/understanding human health and function from a holistic perspective
- focusing on prevention vs. sustained health care intervention
- seeking the truth and delivering it to the masses
What have we got to lose? As it stands right now, the health/wellness system is broken . . . and increasingly out of control. If we vow to get better at "working together" right now, we create a greater chance of achieving our highest health potential instead of relying on a system that focuses more on making money and treating symptoms with pills created in the lab.
I find it challenging to stay calm when I hear/see things like this:
"My doctor told me not to eat eggs because they're high in cholesterol . . . and, by the way, I've been put on a prescription of statins.
(For fat loss) My Dr. says I should eat less and do cardio.
"Gotta keep McDonald's open so that we can maintain a steady stream of patients. . ." (Joke by an endocrinologist, specializing in diabetes!, no less.)
"Health insurance plans that will cover surgery and drug prescriptions, but not acupuncture, massage, herbal/organic food remedies.
