Pride: I still rock my D-tag from my first marathon.
This week on Fit Bottomed Girls, as a special part of , each FBG will share her —truths that resonate with each of us as we’re working out and living our day-to-day lives. Today, —the originator behind this idea, as you’ll read below—shares her truths on working out and proudly wearing a size 12 running shoe.
The idea of one’s fitness truths came to me the week I got back in the running saddle. I hadn’t run for many moons and was excited and pumped to get my legs going once again. It wasn’t even two minutes into dressing in the girls’ locker room though that someone started ragging on me for being enthusiastic about working out. This warped woman had a twisted idea of why people should go to the gym…and apparently wanting to feel healthy and fit wasn’t a cool option. (To her, it was all about looking good and fitting into a certain size.)
My run was sporadic and hard. I was so peeved that I couldn’t get that negative woman’s words out of my head…and that’s when it happened. My truths started pouring out of my brain—and just like that, I started rocking my run. Apparently, for some, wanting to be fit requires an explanation. Occasionally, we have to explain why we do what we do. We have to, in some ways, stand up for our fitness. In the words of a great lyricist, “Ain’t nobody gonna bring me down…I’ve got to keep on moving!”
Tish’s Fitness Truths
You think I’m searching the room looking for cute boys? Think again. I’m looking for the best pull-up machine.
You laugh at my big feet…those feet ran a marathon . What have your feet done?
The only makeup I’m worried about are the make-up miles I have ahead of me.
I’m not sweating whether or not you approve of how I look. I’m sweating to the beats .
I want to feel fit. I could care less if I fit into your version of beautiful, cool, whatever.
I don’t do pedicures. Those calluses are trophies from that hill I conquered. I’m a woman on a mission.
I don’t go to the gym to flirt. My priorities are personal. The only number you’re gonna get is the one I’m rocking in my next race.
Skinny is not a compliment. Call me healthy. Never assume my challenges and goals are set by some weak objectification.
