Meatheads Need Cardio Too

You know that I hate cardio so if I can consistently do it, you can too....meatheads, you need cardio exercise for your health....it doesn't help much if you can bench press 500 pounds when your gut is hanging over your beltline!

At one time, as a high school and college athlete, I thought it was "crucial" to bench press 400+ pounds and squat 600+ pounds....well, it wasn't....and, it didn't make me a better football player.... at some point, all the strength in the world didn't improve my speed and power... what made me better/healthier was sprinting as a defensive back the entire practice (it also gave me a cut body and great heart health)...

So, as I told some meathead friends at the gym this week, you need to adjust your workouts. Lifting as heavy as you can and taking 10 minutes between sets to admire your "pipes" (arms) with your friends is not an effective workout for heart health!

You can and should do cardio! Here are some choices:

Bodyweight cardio - see yesterday's post

Sprint interval cardio - my favorite because I'm used to working out fast as an athlete.....this will also give you the "cut" body you want so much.

Play soccer, flag football or basketball - fun cardio that combines sprints and jogging (your beer league softball game doesn't count!)

Burn more body fat by doing some circuit weight training too! You don't need to lift heavy every workout! Give your aching joints a break before you tear your pectoral muscles or something!

Try it and you'll like it......I did!
