http://www.kettlebellplanet.com/ I am always writing about different kettlebell exercises you can do to burn fat or build muscle. But I often forget that most people have never seen a kettlebell and have no idea how to train with one. A kettlebell is a big metal ball with a thick handle attached to it. It looks menacing but it is a really fun training tool. For you to get maximum fat burning results with it you have to understand how to properly train with your kettlebell. It is not to be used like dumbbells, machines or barbells, where you do fixed sets and reps of exercises that work a specific body part. Training in that matter will build muscle, but is not the ideal way to burn fat. Also, it is not very fun. I prefer to "play" with my kettlebell. By play I mean do a whole bunch of different exercises without really counting reps, sets or even the time. Practice an exercise and try to do a whole bunch of reps with it, try to see how long you can go for before putting it down. It is best to just have fun with your bell while working hard and end the workout when you are too tired to train crisply anymore. A decent kettlebell workout can last anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour and should have you sweating buckets and gasping for breath. Working hard enough with your kettlebell will make you burn tons of fat. This is because you are doing both high intensity cardio and lifting weights at the same time. The net effect of this is a huge elevation in you metabolic rate, causing you to burn loads of calories for an extended period of time. When I first started training with kettlebells I lost inches off my stomach and didn't lose any of the muscle that I might have if I had been jogging instead. As for what exercises to do, the best ones are full body movements that flow nicely for high repetitions. What do I mean by flow? Well, if you have used a kettlebell you will know what I mean. A kettlebell's weight is far from the handle, so when you swing it around it creates a pendulum motion, it "flows". So basically you swing and lift the kettlebell in a variety of ways for high repetitions and switch to the next exercises when you can't do the current one cleanly anymore. Watch the exercises below to get a good understanding of basic kettlebell exercises for fat loss. |
