I've been noticing lately how people dress at our (Muay Thai) gym. Most of the guys wear the lightweight "dry" sports shirts, long or short sleeve, with grappling shorts, and the girls tend to wear either shorts and tees or yoga gear (capris and tanks.) I am among the yoga gear wearers but I pair my yoga pants with fitted tees (mostly my fave comfy rolling stones tee) and a wrap style long-sleeved top. I like to look somewhat put-together, even at the gym.
I find that if I feel like I look good, I will feel more confident about myself and my work out is that much better for it. Because I work out at a club mainly focussed on Thai Boxing, I am surrounded by people who are in great shape. It's very distracting for me to feel like a slob among these people.
Is that shallow? I don't think so; I don't think I'm alone in my preference to look pretty, no matter the venue.
I just wear a pair of workout pants and a tank top to the gym. Generally speaking there aren't that many guys at my gym that I care to impress (sadly). I did actually date a guy who used to work at my gym, and he saw me plenty of times not only in less than stylish workout clothes but no make-up to boot, and he still asked me out. And he was a pretty good-looking guy if I do say so myself. So I honestly don't think it makes a difference to the guys. I find I get hit on more sometimes when I am out and about and looking like slob for some reason. Go figure.
