Lincoln Presidential 1/2 Marathon Photo Dump: A new 1/2 PR!

Posted Apr 07 2013 8:29am

I’m back and I had a great race yesterday!  It was actually the hilliest race I have ever done and the weather turned out to be just right!  The cloudy conditions they were calling for were replaced with bright sunny skies and some windy patches!  All in all it was a great way to start off the race season and I have a new 1/2 PR!  The race “expo”  wasn’t anything to write home about!  It was a small room.  You pick up your stuff and move on!  It took us 5 minutes to get in and out!

Debbie and I hit up a nice place for dinner Friday night and had salmon and a polenta dish!  It was perfect and hit the spot! Springfield, Illinois isn’t the most exciting place in the world and so we were back in our room early to get a good nights sleep.  No fridge in our room so check out how I made my overnight oats!

Saturday morning, we fueled up and headed out.  The lobby of the Hilton was buzzing will runners!  The wind looked a little scary but in the end it wasn’t so bad!

The race started shortly after 7:30 and we were off!  I went out fast as I normally do and clocked in my first mile at about 7:25!  I did eventually slow down.  The run had really pretty scenery at times!  It was very historic and brought back memories of the last time I was there in seventh grade!  The hills were brutal but I did it!  Thankfully I had my HB handband, and my music to keep me going!!

My goal was to beat 1:48!  There were times around mile 10 or 11 that I wasn’t sure it was going to happen.  I was slowing down and the hills were wearing me out!  I really don’t do any hill training!  However, by mile 12 I knew it was possible and kicked it into high gear for the end!

I crossed the finish line and clocked in a 1:46:34!  An 8:08 pace!  Woo hoo a new PR for me!  Knowing that the hills slowed me down, I am confident that I can beat that time with a flatter and faster course!!

All and all, we had a great time and it was a great way to kick off the running season!  I really love a 1/2 marathon!  The distance is perfect!  I feel pretty good today and with the weather warming up around here I am ready to begin the outdoor running season!

Hope you are enjoying your weekend!  I’ll be back tomorrow with a giveaway!  I’ve got a couple of them lined up!  Don’t forget that Brad’s Raw Foods giveaway is still going on!
