Each week we share the latest health news from our team and from around the web in Health Buzz, a web video show hosted by Jamie Yuenger. In this week’s episode, we share stories from none other than the Fit Bottomed Girls, Yahoo! Shine and a must-have recipe from Feast on the Cheap.
The FBGs offer some insight for fitness fashions dos and don’ts for the fall season . These are not rules like whether or not to wear white shoes, but tips that can prevent chafing and help you control your body temperature during workouts. Layers are a necessity, as are moisture wicking clothes. You may even want to add to your wardrobe some fitness-friendly items like shirts that have pockets for your iPod.
At Yahoo! Shine they talk about the importance of sleep, especially during this time of year when colds and flu are just waiting to take advantage of a weakened immune system. Sleep is key to keeping your body in fighting shape and holding the germ-of-the-moment at bay. They advise to eat smaller meals for dinner so that your body has time to digest and you don’t go to bed on a full stomach. They also advise to avoid greasy or spicy foods later in the evening as this can create reflux that can not only cause restless sleep but keep you awake altogether.
We’ve also got a fun way to enjoy your next trip to the pumpkin patch—a bootcamp! It doesn’t have to be as intense as what you’re doing on Saturday mornings with a trainer, but it can add a little more activity and friendly competition to your next family outing. If you want to keep your workout at home, use the pumpkins , hay bales and other gourds you collect to create a backyard obstacle course or relay race.
There’s little not to like about the fall season, but all the warm, comforting meals make it some of the tastiest three months of the year. This recipe for Black Bean and Sweet Potato Soup is a perfect example.
