Labor Day Weekend, More Like Rest Day Weekend!

Posted Sep 07 2009 10:52pm
Thank you for all the support on my previous post, it really means a lot to know that there's a whole community of blogger support! It also is really comforting that I poured my heart out and was met with so much positive energy! THANKS! :)

This long weekend was much needed after the craziness Friday at work! I finished my 5k on Friday morning with a new Personal Record (PR) for me of 33:10! That BLOWS my previous 5k PR time of 33:53 out of the water! It was the perfect way to start my day and I also won one of the door prizes from the race. Our busiest day of the year was a little wacky with the fax machines going down and having to stick around to make sure that all of the waivers pending competition had come in before I left for the weekend!

Saturday was a long day of tailgating at the Purdue versus University of Toledo game. For the tailgate I had a bacon burger (a meat patty actually made out of bacon and ground beef) with a side of an amazing peach! Purdue handily put Toledo away and after the game we went on a wild goose chase around Lafayette and West Lafayette trying to find a TCBY (to no avail) and settling for some no-sugar added ice cream from the Silver Dipper in West Lafayette.

On Sunday we headed out to Fort Wayne to visit the hubs' brother and his wife. I had a Cranberry Orange PURE bar and the hubs had one of the Lemongrass Sencha Naturals Green Tea bars (shouldn't he have been a hand model?). They weren't enough to satisfy us through to dinner so we stopped for a filling lunch of Indian food at Taj Mahal which had a great buffet lunch!

I think I had just about a taste of everything and we were SO impressed with how good the quality of food was for a buffet. Everything was really fresh and not too heavily spiced. I still need to write up my review on Yelp! but it was a high quality stop for ethnic food in Fort Wayne.
Even the soup was amazingly delicious and hit the spot during a hot day! We spent the rest of Sunday at the rose garden and the ballpark walking around Fort Wayne. After we split ways we went to dinner at Mad Anthony's Brewpub and headed back to Indy. Since I was really tired we watched There Will Be Blood on the DVR and I hit the sack. I was going to get up early this morning and run but instead woke up with a sore throat and a big headache. I figured I should skip my long run and try to up my mileage this week instead. I'm just really mentally tired and I needed to recharge today!

The hubs made amazing coconut waffles topped with Gena's Banana Soft Serve mixed with pineapple. It was SO good, just like having a dessert sundae for breakfast. We actually replaced the regular vegetable oil with coconut oil and it gave the waffles a great flavor and sweetness!
When we went to Trader Joe's this afternoon I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and picked up a few new treats. We tried this dried, unsweetened and unsullfured mangosteen and it was really good!

It tasted like strawberry banana chews around an almond! It was SO good and really portable. It wasn't sticky or left a residue like some dried fruits do. We also picked up papaya for my green monsters and a big tub of soy protein powder to add to my monsters so I can kick up the protein levels! I'm planning to run after work tomorrow and hopefully I'll be able to do it outside!

What was the best part of your labor day weekend?
