But a class or two in the ancient Brazilian martial art of Capoiera is sure to throw a curve ball into your hum drum workout routine, and bolster self-confidence. Developed by enslaved Africans in 16th century Brazil, the heart-pulsing exercise focuses on kicks, acrobatics, and heavy groundwork like handstands. The rhythmic moves fall under the high impact aerobic category, so gear up to torch calories, improve muscle tone and flexibility. Another plus? It's a social exercise, so partnering is critical.
