I Am An Earphone Snob

Posted Nov 29 2008 12:26pm

Ever since IPODs hit the market, I wanted their white earphones. Not the actual IPOD itself, but the earphones. I wanted them so badly that I even took a pair that was in the lost and found for months at a gym I used to work at and wore them with my old MP3 player. Not sure what it is about them, I think it is a status symbol to me or something. Even if you don't see the actual MP3 player, the white earphones were a universal symbol that you had one...and you were cool. It is almost like seeing the red tab on the back of a pair of PRADA shoes. Nobody wants the shoe, they want that red tab on the back of their shoe!

So I finally got an IPOD nano last Spring and had been loving life with the white earphones. I'd flash them like a girl would her new engagement ring! Very proud. Then my world was rocked, as the earphones began to fall apart. I didn't care, I kept wearing them. I wore those things until the right earphone didn't play music and had exposed wires.

Why? Because I am a earphone snob. I'd rather not listen to music than wear anything but the IPOD earphones. Sad, I know. I have come to accept who I am and I hope you all can too.

But has my obsession with these earphones increased my risk hearing loss?
