As the year comes to a close, and I usually reflect back on the many things learned and how my experiences have grown. This year I think one thing that I have really taken to heart is how precious my time really is, and when my time is gone, it’s gone for good.
When I exercise I have no problem being super efficient with my time, but sometimes when I go in to gyms and just observe what’s happening I see many people falling for the same old Gym BS and I guarantee these are the people that are struggling to lose weight or aren’t too serious about their health.
Sure they’ve joined a gym, which great and fabulous but having a gym membership doesn’t do jack squat for your health if you’re not utilizing it to properly.
Below are my top 5 things you should do if you want to waste your time at the gym. (Obviously you want to do the opposite! Which I will post tomorrow)
Over –Talk
Being social and talking to other gym members is totally fine, but some people just take this to a whole new level. If you really want to waste time at the gym, do one set of an exercise and then talk to your buddy for 10 minutes. You’ll quickly find that the time has past and its time for you to go home, even though you’ve only done a total of 10 minutes of exercise for the whole hour you were there.
Work One Muscle Group
Work one muscle group at a time to spend an hour and a half in the gym. Once you’ve finished one set of that specific one muscle group exercise, take a rest break – you deserve it for working so hard.
Take All The Rest You Need
Once you get your heart rate up don’t keep it there. Instead, stop and let it come back down. Only start again when your heart doesn’t feel like it ‘s working too hard.
Wait Around For Equipment
Uh oh! The gym is full. Here’s a sure-fire way to get in a grumpy mood. Stand by the machines with an angry look on your face and arms crossed by your chest. Don’t forget to occasionally give your watch a quick look and don’t even bother doing any body weight exercises to work your muscles – that’s just a crazy idea!
Go In With No Plan
Hmmm…What should you do once your at the gym? Well you haven’t written any goals down or have a structured exercise plan set so I think it’s safe to say you have no purpose being there. Might as well just go over to the water fountain and throw some water on your face to make it look like you were working hard.
