How People Keep Fit for Life

The National Weight Control Registry is tracking the eating and exercise habits of more than 5,000 people who have managed to keep weight off for long periods of time. The registry has found there are at least four kinds of behavior common to those who have lost and kept off weight: 1) eating a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet; 2) eating breakfast almost every day; 3) frequent self-monitoring of weight; and 4) participation in a high level of physical activity.
