Say, for example, your maintenance needs are 2100 calories a day and you burn 300 through walking. That is 2400 calories a day for your weight to stay the same (this is an EXAMPLEonly). You need a deficit of 500 calories a day to lose 1lb a week so if you ate 1900 calories a day, you would lose 1lb a week. Losing more than 2lbs a week is not recommended.
