How Bad Do You Want It?: Tashia and Karla Tag Team

Hi guys! I wanted to introduce you to a dynamic sisterly duo: Tashia and Karla. They happen to be my cousins--the ones who issued me that 100-lb. challenge last week. Since Monday, I've been trying to ease them into their weight loss journey by sending them daily emails with a new challenge. They are accepting each new one with grace and hilarity, so I wanted to introduce you to them. Check out what they have to say:
What is your goal? And why? By when?
Tashia: My goal is to lose 50 pounds in 5 months before my daughter's first birthday, which is May 29, 2010 because I want to look HOT! Pretty vain but it’s the truth, lol.
Karla: To look super hot for the summer with enough time not to stress...May 29th of 2010.
(Editor's Note: I told them 50 lbs in five months was a little extreme. If Tashia and Karla are consistent and do it the smart way (modifying food intake + exercise) however, they can lose 1.5 to 2lbs each week. I would say 35 lbs of shed weight at max by the end of May. That way they can keep it off!)
Why are you doing it together?
Tashia: Well when me and my sister are together we eat…A LOT, lol, so I figured it would be a great if we motivated and supported each other. We are a force to be reckoned with alone, so if we joined forces we would be AMAZING! Plus it’s boring doing it solo.
Karla: It's so much more fun to do it together, we have the same goal, so its two sets of ideas to conquer the situation which, used to seem so troublesome.
What's your prior experience with exercise?
Tashia: I like to exercise, when I have time. I don’t love it by any means. I have been a member at a gym and that was fun for about 6 months and then I got over it. I like doing different things-- anything stationary makes me cringe.
Karla: I was a dancing machine!! I'm only 22 but most of those years involved ongoing classes and developmental training. My problem is with the grub!
What is your relationship to food like?
Tashia: I love food, I like trying new things and recipes when the funds allow. But lately I have been in a fast food and boxed mac & cheese rut. (I know it’s horrible.)
Karla: I loveeeee love love food !
Name three food items you feel like you CANNOT live without.
Tashia: I cannot live with out cheese, bread and anything CHOCOLATE
Karla: Steak, bacon, and coffee. Although not together.
And three that you feel you can GIVE UP.
Tashia: I can give up soda, rice, chips.
Karla: Iced tea, soda and cheese.
What steps are you taking to reach your goal?
Tashia: Well I have enlisted the help of my fabulous fitness guru, KARINA, who has shed crazy weight and kicks booty, lol.
Karla: Cutting out unneccessary condiments and calorie-packed fixins' when it comes to nutrition; and taking the stairs! Today!
How bad do you want it?
Tashia: I want it worse than a forty five year old balding man going thru a mid life crisis wants a sports car and a full head of hair!
Karla: Bad enough, I could eat a vegetable!
What small change can you make--today?
Tashia: I did not drink any soda yesterday and I had a granola bar instead of a Snickers!
Karla: Not living in excess. You'd be surprised in how many ways that translates.
