Homemade Hibachi

Posted Aug 04 2008 7:14pm

We picked a TON of blueberries today! We got about 6 lbs of blueberries (not including the random blueberries that made it into my mouth instead of the bucket), which we'll definitely be sharing with some friends :) The pilot has already requested some muffins for tomorrow's breakfast... so we'll see if he earns these muffins...

After blueberry-picking, I was feeling a little snacky, so I had a protein smoothie-  1 cup light vanilla Silk, 1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder and a small banana. Super filling and tasty. It kinda makes me feel like I'm drinking a milkshake, which is totally fine with me :)

Next, we hit up the gym and I did the weights portion of today's workout.

After the gym, we went to the Wizzle to get groceries for tonight's dinner. HIBACHI!!! We love going out for hibachi, but thought it would be fun to try it at home. We got veggies, steak, chicken, shrimp and rice. I made a yum yum sauce for the hubby (mayo, sugar, rice wine vinegar, tomato paste, paprika and garlic powder) and grilled up his onion, zucchini and squash with sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, pepper and sesame seeds. He did the meat with similar seasonings and I made him some fried rice- cooked the rice first and then sauteed carrots and onion, scrambled an egg into the veggies, added the rice, with soy sauce, pepper and sesame seeds and then tossed in some scallions. It was pretty full-up! I made my shrimp and veggies separately, with no oil and a lot of hot sauce, lite soy sauce and chili flakes, and also put together a salad to munch with the asian dressing I made for girl's night.

After looking at my separate plates, I decided to put the veggies and shrimp on top of the salad... It wasamazing.

It was so much fun to make it at home, and especially nice because we got to have dinner alone instead of at a table with 8 people we don't know :) The pilot gave each of the puppies a bite of his steak and it made their little puppy lives. Bella was shaking, she was so excited (they very rarely get "people food").

We're going to take these puppies on a little walk and call it a night! Hope you all enjoyed your Saturday as much as we did.

Goodnight!
