Hey, hula?

Posted by Nancy B.

Every so many years, hula hoops seem make a comeback. I just read an article in a Kansas newspaper about the hula fitness trend. San Fransisco’s Christabel Zamor gets a nod for her HoopGirl products, DVDs and instructor certification programs. I’m not sure how widespread the movement really is, do you know? Anyone reading this doing it? I am sure from past experience that hula hoping is a workout. Apparently, Jo Ellis, a Lawrence parks recreation instructor, concurs. “Trust me, if you do it for six minutes, you’re sweating,” Ellis told the Lawrence Journal-World & News. See the story at http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2007/sep/16/hula_hoopla/

It takes moving those hips and lower back area. My daughter is great at it. It takes rhythm. However, I could never do it for whatever reason. BTW: I love how you find this really wonderful and interesting fitness articles and post them on this site. Good job!
I love the hula hoop! I have been practicing since I was eight. It is such a good way to work out...and soooo much fun. It seems to be particularly popular at festivals and with hippi types.
I haven't done it but I know it must be a good work out. I have tried with my kids' hoops and it's so hard! I'm not sure how you'd do it to music but oh well!
