Here Fishy Fishy Fishy

When you think of fish you either think one of two things:

1. Ewww, nasty. Get that smelly, scaly, slimy stuff away from me

OR

2. A healthy tasty food option with high protein, low calories, and essential omega fatty acids.

For the most part I think of #2 when it comes to fish. And being on the West Coast and so close to the Pacific Ocean I tried to eat as much fish as possible. I was very successful because out of my 10 days on vacation I probably had fish 7 times.

On the last day of our trip, my mom gave me the 2008 West Coast Seafood Guide By The Seattle Aquarium which listed the healthiest and eco-friendliest fish.

From the pamphlet I learned that:

A.Adults should not have a lot more than4 meals of seafood each month

B.  The best options (least contaminated) for fish are:
  • Black Sea bass
  • Snapper
  • MahiMahi
  • Pacific Rockfish
  • English Sole
  • Monkfish
  • Halibut
  • Sablefish
  • Pacific Pollock
  • Tuna Canned (light)
  • Floria Pompano

Great Mom, thanks for giving me this guide after I already ate almost twice the advised amount of fish for a given month! Better late than never, I guess...

Check out the rest of the contaminated fish list and find out how many times per month you can eat your favorite types of fish.
