Get Your Girlfriend To Workout

Posted Nov 29 2008 12:26pm
We are told to never say, 'I can't'.

Well, this is like no other situation around. It is so different that I have to say,

'I can't, you can't, even the little engine that could can't...
get your girlfriend to workout!'

Some of my closest guy and girlfriends come to me for advice on getting their main squeeze to squeeze into their workout gear and go to the gym.

The reality of it, is that there is really nothing that anyone can say or do to get them to take action. There are only things that you can say and do to stop them from taking action.

Getting back into shape or hitting the health club is a personal choice and decision. The only person that can get them to workout is THEM SELF.

What you can't do:

  • Say they should workout, go on a diet, or should see a trainer

  • Buy them a gym membership

  • Compare yourself to them

  • Mention they are beginning to look like their mother or father

  • Comment on their previous body shape or size

  • Deviate your typical behavior, they will know something is up (like you think their weight is) if you start inviting them to the gym

  • Never agree with them that they need to lose weight, tone up, get in shape. Never.

Be supportive and understanding of your partner's situation. Set a good example and continue your healthy habits. When dealing with your loved-one, keep it pressure, guilt, and criticism-free. If they don't ask your opinion, don't give it. Even if they ask for your opinion on their fitness level, body, or weight. Lie! It's a lose-lose. When they are ready to get it in gear, they will...

If you push too hard, they will end up resenting it and will purposefully not workout to get back at you!
