Get Real

Posted by Mary Ann P.

Many times when we are setting fitness goals for ourselves we are unrealistic. Maybe there is a star or an athlete that you admire and you want to look like them. I'm not saying it's impossible but take into consideration what they had to do to look that way. For instance, Cameron Diaz worked out eight hour days, five days a week for a three month period. That was all to film Charlie's Angels. It's like a full time job. I'm not saying we should give up hope and do nothing. We should push ourselves to be our personal best while realizing we have families and jobs and not be so hard on ourselves if we don't have the body of our favorite star.

Sometimes I fall prey to the images on tv of stars with the thin, toned bodies and think "if they can do it, so can I." And perhaps I could-if I had a lot more time on my hands and the money for a very good personal trainer to keep me motivated and teach me the right way to work out. You're advice makes so much sense, and it's those thoughts that snap me back into reality. While the visions on tv can perhaps serve as an inspiration, people should be careful about making them their ultimate goal-you must do what is healthiest for you.
