Today was a beautiful day in lovely Calgary, Canada. I looked outside and it was a clear blue sky, warm and perfect for getting outside and having some fun. My fiance wanted to go big box shopping with her girlfriend so it was a perfect day to get outside and exercise. I am trying to lose weight these days and with the weather so perfect I decided to hop on my new bike and go for a nice ride.
I rode around the city running a few errands, then did the real workout. First I went over to a hill and ran hill sprints with push-ups at the top. These are really brutal so if you are out of shape, just jog up a steep hill a bunch of times instead of sprinting. Long distance jogging is useless for fat loss so do something shorter and more intense instead.
After the really hard sprinting session I jumped back on my bike and did a series of bike sprints to really speed up my metabolism. Bike sprints are great because there is no impact on the joints. I would sprint to an intersection and rest at each red light. It was a game of red light, green light on my bike. Hey, you have to have fun sometimes!
After the bike sprints I just cruised along beside the river and enjoyed the breeze and the view. It is always so relaxing to get outside and get some fresh air and exercise at the same time. Nothing put me in a more relaxing mood. I don't know how many calories I burned or what my heart rate was at and I don't care. All I know is that I had a challenging and fun workout playing around on my bike! This is what exercise should be about, getting outside and burning some calories in a fun, stress relieving way.
