Q:I am a big fan of total body training where you train 3 days a week full body. I changed it a bit for my needs - I use compound big daddy exercises and that has works for me.My question is what needs to be changed for fat loss? As I see it nothing really?
Am I missing something - Why should I use high rep /complexes and such if I am risking at losing muscle mass?
A: That's a good question really. It depends more on your progress and muscle mass. If you've been training for awhile, are serious and have a good amount of muscle mass then I wouldn't recommend full body workouts for fat loss.
If you're looking to kick start your fat loss efforts then I'd do total body training for two to three weeks to get you in a fat loss state. After that and when combining your training with high intensity cardio, you do run the risk of losing muscle mass.
Backing it up a bit, your fat loss will depend more on your nutrition and aerobic work since aerobic work equals extra work and calorie use.
What's really needed for fat loss? Smart carbohydrate use and just over all hard work. I know it seems like a cop out. You don't need to train with total body training every day for fat loss, I'd suggest training with full body workouts at least twice a week.
