Friday Food Rave! : Bolthouse Farms Creamy Yogurt Dressing

Posted Jan 29 2010 5:45am

Happy Friday, guys! Just wanted to share with you my new favorite salad dressing: Bolthouse Farms Creamy Yogurt Dressing, in Classic Ranch -- I love it!

The other day I was browsing through the produce aisle at the supermarket when it caught my eye. Now, as a rule, I stick to vinaigrettes because they're lower in fat. For someone who is trying to lose a few pounds, anything creamy is suspect. That doesn't mean that I don't eat anything creamy, but that I choose carefully! And salad dressing just isn't on that list of worthwhile things...though I admit that sometimes there's nothing better than some Ranch with a handful (ok, a couple of handfuls...) of baby carrots, broccoli and grape tomatoes.

Enter this creamy yogurt-based dressing -- GENIUS!!! The nutritional profile is pretty good: 70 cal. per 2 tbsp, with 6 g of total fat; 1.5 g saturated fat. That's great, compared to Hidden Valley's original Ranch, which is 140 cal. per serving!!! Or if you've ever made your own full-fat Ranch dressing, you know the recipe calls for mayo and sour cream. Not exactly waistline friendly ingredients...

Yes, I know what you're thinking, there's a low-fat AND a fat-free version of Hidden Valley already, so why bother with this alternative? Because the Bolthouse Farms dressing has a decent ingredient list that is filled with stuff I've heard of and contains no added sugar. Plus it's super creamy in texture and tangy so you don't feel you're missing out on anything -- I'm an instant fan!

How about you, would you try this yogurt-based dressing? It comes in a bunch of other flavors, like Caesar Parmigiano and Chunky Blue Cheese. What's your favorite salad dressing?
