5 Ways to Power Through Workouts You Hate**

If you’re like many people, it’s hard to find the motivation to power through a workout once that burns begins to intensify. We all want to reap the benefits of exercise, but sometimes it’s a lot harder than it sounds in your head. Here are few pointers that may help you power through a workout you hate.

1.Turn up the music.

When you’re really starting to feel the burn and contemplating calling it quits for the night, try turning up some of your favorite tunes. Pop in a CD that you love to listen to, or crank up your Ipod so that you are focusing on something other than how tired you are getting. Upbeat music tends to work best for this.

2.Picture the benefits.

When you’re halfway into that set of crunches and your mind is starting to wander, try to imagine what you’ll look like after you shed some of those unwanted pounds. Or, if you don’t have any weight to lose, think of what you’re stomach will look like with that six pack you’ve always wanted. The imagination can be a very powerful motivator.

3.Bring a friend.

Sometimes no matter how good the music is, or how well you can picture the new you, it just isn’t enough to get you through a workout you hate. Having a support system can quickly get you through the next half-an-hour without you even realizing the time is flying. This works especially well if you have a competitive mindset- you won’t think about how much you don’t want to be doing those squats if you are competing with a friend to see who can last the longest.

4.Change it up.

Monotony gets boring, and when you get bored you will begin to hate your workout. Try changing the sequence that you do your sets in, or choose different amounts of weight to lift. This will give you a change of pace that should help put some enthusiasm back into your exercise routine. If that doesn’t work, try incorporating a few new exercises into your workout so that you aren’t doing the same thing every time.

5.Take a break.

If you really can’t get through your workout, consider taking a short break so you can regroup. This will give you time to get a drink of water; maybe wipe off some of that sweat that’s making you stick to the bench. Just remember not to take too long of a break otherwise it will be even harder to get back into your workout.

We all know exercising is one of the best ways to boost self esteem. The key is sticking with it, and being able to see out a workout that you hate. Don’t give up- you’ll thank yourself in the end!
