Fitness Comfort Zones

“The significant problems we face cannot be solved by the same level of thinking that created them”.
Albert Einstein

Consulting and training with people everyday allows me to recognize certain common patterns. For instance, most females prefer single leg training like split squats and lunges where the guys love the squats and deadlift since they have the potential to lift heavy weights to impress said females.

I’ll also notice the common supplement usage of males as opposed to females whom you can’t get to take a protein shake to save their life. 100 calories in one drink?

The real issues lie in most people’s fitness comfort zones. People are just completely unwilling to do what it takes in the gym to get the body they want. As my friend Jen Heath said on the fitcast recently, “ I have the body I have because of what I do”. Now I understand about the hard dieting and whatever, it sucks and takes a certain kind of person to do it.

I’m talking about doing the things in the gym that are outside of your comfort zone. There are exercises that I hate, that simply kill me to do. I’ve said it before, do what you hate first. That way, things can only get easier.

Self-improvement consultant Brian Tracey has a book entitled “Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time”. In it, he describes, “eating the ugliest frog first” during the course of the day. Like life, pick the exercise you hate the most and do it first.
The truth, most people are scared to get out of their comfort zone. People are scared to death of failure and not succeeding; in reality the only thing that can come is future success. How bad do you really want the body you see yourself having?
