First track workout!!

Posted Mar 07 2011 12:00am
So I knew I wanted to run outside today as the hubby won't be off again until Friday and I'd be stuck on the treadmill for the rest of the week. I read about a speed workout to do 2 weeks out from a 10k in the new Runner's World last night and decided to give it a shot. 25x400 with 30 sec rest in between. The temperature was great, mid 40s, but the wind was not in my favor. I had to stop a few times for longer than the 30 secs, but that's ok. I LOVE that I could program my intervals into my Garmin and it tells me when to run and when to rest.  While it seems like a luxury item, not something you need to run, it is definately a GREAT tool to have to help you improve and get faster. I am pretty proud of my splits, never would have attempted this fast on a TM and for that distance. For some reason I always do less on the TM, I guess because it's boring. So here are my splits

I didn't have a specific pace set, just going out to see what I could do. I'm glad to see I have some speed in me!! I have a 1 hour goal for my 10K in a couple of weeks, a 1:35 goal for my 10 M, and a 2:15 hour goal for my 1/2 at the end of April. We'll see! I "get" to run on the treadmill for the rest of the week, until Friday which will probably be my long run day...shooting for 11 this time!
